But this was easy to solve by enabling the Intel virtualization technology in the BIOS: push and hold the ESC key during startup until the laptop tells you to press the F1 key. Then enable the related BIOS option and done.

Intel's Virtualization Technology Required for 64bit Virtual Machines

I found out “ Virtualization Technology” (VT) must be enabled in the bios settings of my laptop. VT is an option for Intel CPUs. This is a requirement VMware implemented for running 64bit virtual machines
