I am wondering if you can reflect on whether the Virtualization that I mostly deal within the management of resources, whether physical or logical or both — could be other bases that one can get the most efficient and optimized?

Aprius announces I/O Virtualization at the Ethernet Technology Summit.

Aprius, a systems company developing shared I/O resources for data centers, today announced that Peter Kirkpatrick, co-founder and chief architect, is presenting at the Ethernet Technology Summit on Wednesday, February 24, from 8:30 to 11:10 a.m. PST. Kirkpatrick’s session is part of “Tutorial T1B – Ethernet in Data Centers,” highlighting how to leverage Ethernet convergence and virtualization to construct an agile and optimized data center.

The session will present new approaches to provisioning and managing server I/O by consolidating network, storage and other I/O types into common pools, accessible over a single fabric. Kirkpatrick will discuss the cost, management and efficiency benefits that result from provisioning I/O ‘on-demand’ rather than statically over-provisioning per-server, as is the common practice today.

IT departments and enterprises managing virtual data centers with highly utilized servers and many virtual machines (VMs) experience varying I/O needs based on their application demands. Providing server access to virtualized I/O resource pools increases overall I/O efficiency, simplifies I/O management and allows applications with unique I/O needs to be virtualized on a common server platform. This approach maximizes the benefits of server virtualization, network convergence and fabric computing.

“A movement toward virtualized data center resources that is accessible to any server at any time is underway, and the success of Ethernet as a common, converged fabric is at the core of this evolution,” said Kirkpatrick. “Companies that embrace new models for utilizing virtualized I/O will increase efficiency and lower the costs associated with managing unique application workloads in highly virtualized environments.”

The Ethernet Technology Summit focuses on advances in Ethernet technology, particularly the new specifications for 40/100 GbE, FCoE and energy-efficient Ethernet. The show will provide attendees with practical information on the current state of Ethernet, new specifications and products and the latest market research. It takes place February 24-25, at the Wyndham Hotel in San Jose, Calif.
